WisdomTeeth

We Will Get The Tooth Out Leaving Behind The Wisdom

Wisdom teeth are the final set of molars that most people get in their late teens to early twenties. If wisdom teeth come in straight and properly aligned they can be a great addition to your mouth. However, if they come in misaligned or impacted they can cause severe problems and extraction may be required.

What are impacted wisdom teeth?

Impacted wisdom teeth occur when the wisdom tooth only partially emerges from the gum. This allows bacteria to enter around the tooth causing infection and tooth decay. Wisdom teeth can also emerge misaligned. This can result in damage to the adjacent teeth, jawbones or nerves and crowding of the teeth.

How do I know if I need a wisdom tooth extracted?

Below are some common symptoms associated with unhealthy wisdom teeth:

Does wisdom tooth extraction hurt?

At Ideal Smile we will numb the area by injecting a local anaesthetic. Oral Conscious sedation may also be used. We will help you to decide the best type of sedation based on your medical history and preference. After the local anaesthetic is administered you should experience no discomfort during the procedure. You can expect some discomfort in the days following your treatment as the gum heals. You can take painkillers during this time to alleviate the discomfort. Your dentist can advise you on what painkillers to take.

What about aftercare?

Immediately after your treatment avoid any strenuous physical activity for at least 24 hours. You may also want to arrange for someone to accompany you home from the dentist after your extraction. Take painkillers as prescribed to avoid discomfort and avoid touching the affected area and forcefully rinsing your mouth.
